The Tennessean Kills ‘Don’t Search, Find’ Billboard Slogan

Gannett-owned newspaper The Tennessean is ditching billboards with the slogan “Don’t Search, Find” after realizing it was no longer 1999.

Even though journalism 101 teaches never to assume anything, I’m going to go out on a limb and say everyone on staff either didn’t realize this slogan was still being used or they previously understood how horribly it fails to be an effective play on words but were unable to do anything about it.

The news organization has instead opted for a simple, clear message: “The Most Local News Online”.

However, to be entirely accurate the new slogan should read “The Most Local News Online… for about the last month” since the Gannett giant imprisons all older content behind a paywall. I’ll admit I don’t visit the archive often and the service has certainly improved from a year ago. Still, news posts die when confined and flourish when optimized.

Point being… there are smart, talented people working for Gannett, lest you piss them off enough and they start a 2-man (or -woman) news blog that yields comparative traffic numbers with a “business” cost of well under $10K.

While not competing with a Gannett publication, we’re keeping our eyes on Chattanooga, Tenn. news blog Chattarati in particular. However, in Nashville, others aren’t far behind.

This website uses IntenseDebate comments, but they are not currently loaded because either your browser doesn't support JavaScript, or they didn't load fast enough.

I think we've been all guilty of having too many and getting behind the wheel. Now I'm careful. If I know I'm getting behind the wheel I keep my drinks to a minimum. There are a variety of reasons. First of all I already have one DUI from my youth. I was involved in an accident with two parked cars. Yes it's funny how they just leap off the side of the road at you. Another reason is, that my wife's brother was killed by a drunk driver. Poor Michael was only eighteen. He was run over while changing a tire. I also have a new child, who I would never cart around with allot of booze in my system. I'm not a saint, or spokesman from Madd, but a taxi is just a small expense to pay to save the life of yourself or someone else.

I'm very laid back and easy going. I like to meet people, read, talk about politics, culture and life. I am a huge comic book fan (X-Men family and Wonder Woman) I also want to say that I am a proud black gay man…no 'down low' drama here
